Down in the meadow, early in the morning,
See all the rabbits standing in a row.
See them play around the trees, all around the meadow.
Play, play, play, play.
Watch them go.

Soon there will be no more trees.
We better figure out something to do.
We could all stop cutting down trees
and we could start planting more trees.
Plant, plant, plant.
Watch us go.

Out in the garden, we could plant some trees,
So the can grow.
See us plant trees in a great big row.
Plant, plant, plant.
Watch us go.

Grade 3/4 Individual Writing Contest Winning Entry:
Matilda, Grade 3

Our Mother Earth

Mother Earth turns 'round and 'round
braced quite nicely for her children
to walk upon her hands and feet
through all and whatever happens.

But how do we repay her?
In a mean and nasty way.
By dumping garbage down her heart.
Through all the night and day.

The only way to stop this
is to stop, oh right away!
Please hear her cry,
and start caring,
Right now,
Today!

Grade 5/6 Individual Writing Contest 3-way Tie for First Place:
Laurel, Bryce and Kylie, Grade 6

Garbage Police
by Laurel

Step away from the garbage
My big, wasteful friend
Your recycling tactics just have to end
Think of the turtle and fish all dirty and stuck
Just because you threw out all of your muck
Look at your paper only one side put to use?
You were going to later, that's no excuse
There are fawns waking up and instead of all trees
They are seeing horrible, mechanical debris

That snack didn't have to come with a tag
You could employ the work of a Ziploc bag
The custodians working on double time
Just to keep up with the garbagey grime

Take heed of this warning all Rama kids
And I'd better see garbage cans with unopened lids.

Pollution Problems
by Bryce

Although the world is plentiful, also the world is nice.
We're hurting humans and animals and Mother Nature twice.
Animals are dying because of humans' curse,
We need to stop pollution, before it gets worse.
Polar Bears are cute, Polar Bears are white,
With anymore pollution, there won't be ice in sight.
Penguins are my favourite, because they are so neat.
Pollution causes a lot less ice, that without they might deplete.
Burning down the forest is nasty, cruel and mean.
Think of all the animals that you just killed, you fiend!
I'm not meaning to preach, I'm only meaning to teach,
That the 3 R's are important to extend all lives reach.

Earth Day Poem
by Kylie

What is that stench?
It is the garbage on the bench
It's called pollution
But there is a solution

The thing is called the trash
And the garbage is gone in a flash
It will save the air
And the Polar Bears

If you find garbage on the ground
The piece that you found
Could become more and more
Until the garbage will be at the water floor

If you're responsible and put garbage away
You can be the one to say
Remember the 3 R's
And try not to drive cars

So next time you think of littering
STOP!!!!!
And think of the animals going extinct
And maybe you could save just one animal by not littering.
